All-Day Seminar in Austin, Texas

Announcing the Austin Chapter PTG's annual All-Day Seminar on
Saturday, June 2nd. We will meet in the Music Building on the campus
of UT-Austin. The morning session will begin at 9:00 in room
MRH2.608, with registration and refreshments at 8:30. This room is
actually on the ground floor of the building, and is commonly
referred to as Recital Studio. Ed Foote, assisted by pianists Esther
Wang and Timothy Lovelace of the UT Piano Faculty, will present his
temperament timeline. This is a graphic display of the development of
the equal temperament, which most 21st century tuners use, and its
many predecessors. These earlier temperaments were used for many
decades, and lend different colors to music, depending on the width
of various intervals, and the key of the music. This class is a
must-hear for historical perspective, and will give food for thought
regarding "historical" tuning. Should it be relegated to the history
books? Or used every day? Come see for yourself!

We will break for lunch (provided), and then reconvene on the 6th
floor in Room 6.268, for a session on a Yamaha DC-7 grand piano with
Yamaha technician Craig Fehrenbacher. Craig will demonstrate the many
inventive and efficient techniques refined and used by Yamaha techs
all over the world. There is no doubt you will improve your skills in
this class. Be sure to ask Craig about his own design for a key
spacing tool. Very cool...

The cost for this entire day of classes is $50.00, lunch included.
Bring your check made payable to Austin PTG. Bring cash, bring the
