Interesting thing happened to me in our new home a couple years back. We had the Heat and Air folks come evaluate the efficiency of our air conditioning unit. When the service man saw I'd been using these, he advised against it. Said it cut down on the air flow and therefore caused the system to not operate as efficiently as it should, meaning higher heating/cooling bill. Also said the cheap (electrostatic?) filters trapped just as much junk -- just change them every time you pay the bill. Go figure.
