Here's my 2 cents.

The Kottick book is GREAT.

In fact, I borrowed it from the piano shop in a school I once worked at, and
very reluctantly had to give it back. 

Very easy to read, interesting, and WELL worth the purchase.
( Lotsa pictures too!!) 
Sorry... no scratch and sniffs.
