Hi Fred,
              as an addition to my previous post. Remove the felt that's 
muting the duplex,  Lift the strings both, in from and to the rear of the 
of the forward part of the resonator. Move the strings up scale about the 
width of a string and, fudge relocate hammers.
Another partial solution is to put a small dab of PVCE glue on the string 
in the forward duplex section.  It will reduce the noise, but not kill the 
detuned duplex.
