Wim,

No, they say that dimension is 5 1/8 inch.  But on the old Steinways, that
may not be the case either.  It might be anything from 5 inches to 5 1/4
inches.  There were lots of dimensional variations in those old pianos, and
each one just got fitted up so that everything would work.  Your best bet
is just to put everything in it's proper place, and then use the shank
length that will put #88 right where it needs to be.  Even then, that might
not hold true for all of them, but #88 will be on the end that's critical.
