Position Announcement: Stephen F. Austin State University

POSITION:  Piano Technician (Part-Time 37% FTE)

STARTING DATE:  September 1, 2004

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Perform routine semi-annual tuning of all pianos in 
college; keep performance Steinways in performance condition at all times; 
make minor repairs to keyboard faculty grand pianos and piano major 
practice rooms as needed; provide minor maintenance and repair on all other 
pianos in college; evaluate condition of all keyboard instruments; monitor 
environmental conditions; tune harpsichord as needed; repair piano benches 
as needed.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS OR SPECIAL SKILLS:  High-School diploma required. 
Advanced training as keyboard technician preferred. Minimum of three to 
five years of experience in piano tuning and maintenance required; 
membership in Piano Technicians Guild or Master Piano Tuners of America 
preferred; previous experience with Steinway concert grands preferred. 
Knowledge of basic piano repair; ability to perform general piano 
maintenance; excellent knowledge of piano tuning techniques; ability to 
make some emergency repairs or tunings; ability to work independently in 
coordination with the keyboard faculty.

SALARY:  $17,500 is salary @ 37% FTE -PART-TIME status; excellent 
opportunity to build a private tuning practice in area.
