Wim,

Similar to Ed's method, I put the keys in clamps, but insert bushing
cauls so the following step will work, then turn the set over and insert
the correct size pin. (We keep sets just for this)The cauls are simply
to stop the pin from falling out. Then I apply weak glue sizing. The
hole will close in around the pin with very little easing needed. (Let
it dry overnight) The entire process (minus some easing) takes less than
ten minutes with exceptional results. One problem is that with the new
Kawais (UST7s) the company won't sell me a set their new size pin!!
(What's up with that, Don?)

Don's method works very well for newer pianos but I've found glue sizing
w/ pins seems to produce more consistant holes. Just MHO.=20

Subject: [CAUT] glue sizing

Ok, you guys, help me out here. I should probably know this, but I'm
having trouble glue sizing my balance rail holes.=20

=20

I put the glue in the hole, wipe off any excess, and then put the key
back on the balance rail. I wipe off the glue comes out the top. After
the glue dries, there are three problems. 1. the balance rail punching
is sometimes glued to the bottom of the key. That's an easy fix. 2. The
glue at the top of the pin dries to the bushing. When I remove the key,
sometimes the bushing come off and I have to rebush. 3. I have to clean
the glue off the balance rail.=20

=20

What am I doing wrong?
