Hi all,
It already seems like there have been some good responses to the glue
sizing issue.
What I learned, goes back to the sixties. I used to turn the key up side
down,
using a pipe cleaner, I would put some glue on the front half of the
balance rail hole, insert a balance rail pin just through the hole, place
the key on a onextwo, until the glue was dry. I used a dilute solution of
titebond and water.
The balance holes were raised up off the bench, to accomodate the length of
the balance rail pins sticking down from the bottom of the keys.I never had
any glue get into the bushings. However, sometimes the glue would creep
above the shoe in the bottom of the key. It would then be necessarry to
use a file or something sharp to remove the unwanted glue.
Another thought occurring to me, is to cut the balance rail pins in half,
to make it less likely for the pin to go farther then desired into ghe
balance hole.
