I have thought that the jumpiness in the SAT was due to the fact that it
listens to such high partials through most of the scale. These higher
partials can be squirrelly or sometimes very soft. In TuneLab you can
select what partials are used for your default settings and even change
them on-the-fly if one note gives you a jumpy or erratic reading. The
factory default has everything from A4 - C8 reading the fundamental so
you don't have the strange partial problem. Also in pitch raising you
can check the spectrum display and see a peak representing all the
strings of the unison.

No, I don't own stock in TuneLab, I just wish I did!

Most often, I've been able to still the jumpiness by settling the
bridge pin. More times than not, this gets rid of all kinds of
extraneous noises and will still the lights. Not every time, but the
majority of them.

Sometimes, especially A#5 and B5, there's just not much you can do
about it.
