Jeff, When possible, you might consider replacing the S&S stock stuff with something more durable/configurable, like Yamaha CFIII felt. I think this is still sold in strips, which is quite handy. Also, if someone has notes and/or remembers, Wally Brooks used to teach a class on dampers (emphasis on S&S, if memory serves) in which he spent a good deal of time explaining what size blocks to place where for best effect.
