[CAUT] CX-21 hardwood keybuttons

Alan,

seems to me Yamahas also have hardwood key-buttons, and they hold dimension
(after steaming) better than softwood, even without mortice-sizing cauls.

We keep a jar full of old wippen heel cloths (about 1" x 3/8") soaking in
wallpaper removing solution, that we wedge into the mortices to pre-soak the
glue-joint, beforehand. With modern glues though, we often end up using a
warm iron and damp cloth in the process, as you mention.

Unless you're aware of something I'm missing, hardwood key-buttons are a joy
to work with.

best regards,

Subject: [CAUT] CX-21 hardwood keybuttons

Hi Folks,

This marks the first time for me to rebush a set of keys with hardwood
keybuttons. Normally I steam out bushings with a wet cloth and an iron. I'm
worried about doing that with these buttons. Visions of pulpy globs on top
of the keys that once were buttons and installing a set new buttons and
keypins. Anyone have any experience with these? Advice?

Alan
