> alcohol seems to burn (blacken) the shank easier than butane. I place butane lighters in with cordless power screwdrivers. I know that they will run out of juice just when I rely on them the most. My alcohol lamp base never runs dry. For spot burning-in I cut a small wedge of hammer trimmings and dunk it into the lamp base with tweezers, ignite it with a lighter and wave it under the shank or rub it against an upright shank (carefully!). I've heated with the Bic occasionally but don't want to do it too often for the reason mentioned first off. I've blackened shanks with both alcohol and butane, the trick is to keep the flame moving and at the proper distance. -- Regards, Jon Page -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
