Hi Jon,

Thanks for your input. I agree. If I had my druthers, life wouild be a lot worse for this student than just paying for the move and repair of the damaged piano at private rates plus the full cost (2 x $29.95) of the casters. After being told that under no circumstances may they "borrow" an upright from a practice room, they took one anyway, without using a dolly, broke both wheels of the back casters, and surely wouldn't have told me about it three days after the fact (!) had they not abandoned it at the schools wood and metal shop (!!) where the performance took place. The student is an (apparently desirable for retention) MFA 1 and the piano faculty is concerned that if we are too heavy handed with her, she may not return next year. I, on the other hand, am concerned about the "law of the street" (i. e., how we respond to this will determine future behavior of other students) and the fact that without trust and mutual respect, this school, whose facilities are open 24/7, cannot function.

SO, I have been directed to do everything in my power to minimize the cost to the perpretrator.

Got wheels? Have a nice day.

Alan Eder, RPT

P.S. The casters themselves on this Fandrich upright are not readily available from any of the regular supply houses, but they use the same industrial quality, heavy duty Darnell wheels as some other casters, so I'd just be cannibalizing them anyway.

The casters are cheap enough. Replace.
