The old Academy of Music in Philadelphia (former home of Phila Orch) was 
renowned for it's acoustics. Not only was it an enlarged version of the 
LaScala opera house in Milan, but it has a well under the stage. Eugene 
Ormandy, more than once, demonstrated the pin drop on stage which could be 
heard clearly in the back of the Ampitheatre (third balcony, where I 
usually sat).
