The front and back of the flange contact the rail when the center doesn't quite. Tighten the screw, and the flange becomes it's own spring clamp of sorts. This should presumably keep the flange strews tighter longer, through humidity cycles. Does it work? WHO CARES??!!! Give me a nice flat stiff hammer rail any time over the tubular rails, and mount the sostenuto on the belly rail too, while you're at it... <G> Ron N
