Gary, Dave,

I agree with Gary and the physicists' understanding.
Interesting to note that the "soundboard" in German is called 
the "resonanceboard" making it a acoustic resonator  - which
agrees with the understandings of the physicist and Gary.

In reply to Garys' understanding, I replaced the strings
with tuning forks (the mathematical equivalent except the strings
have 2 terminations points for the speaking length) in the 
hopes the imaginary analogy would make it clear what the 
"soundboard" is and what it does.

Some CAUTS have expressed they don't believe in the model 
of coupled motion for strings, which makes the coupled motions
of the string, bridge, and soundboard difficult to define or explain.
