John, Some of the old Hale tips really were great. I now use a Watanabe #3 and have for nearly 10 years. Works for me. Gets down on the pin and gives me good control. Why a 3 and not a 2? I dunno. Someone suggested it and it really fits well. So there must be some around. I can't remember the last time I used a different sized tip, than my #2 Hale. Hale tools were really good. I was working on an older English grand this summer; my Watanabe 1/0 tips flopped all over the place (and would have damaged the tuning pins if I used one of them). I had an older APSCO one piece tuning head/tip that was passably functional but still way too wobbly. > Patrick Draine >
