[CAUT] vellum hinges (was Re: Baldwin D bridge)

I restored an 1834 Pleyel square with nearly the identical setup. What amazed me is that more than half of the vellum hinges were still in perfect working condition! No tears, very nice movement after 175 years. Hmmmm.... Could this technology, or something similar be used today?
