I had the same situation with a Steinway M on one of the lowest bass strings. What I found was that there was very little clearance between the string and where first goes under the plate. No buzz during normal playing, but on a hard blow the string's oscillation would be just wide enough to lightly touch the plate and give me a zing. -- Mick Johnson, R.P.T.
