[CAUT] tuning test blow jig?

No pin/pull set up was indicated.
The pipe is 6 inches longer than the rod weight.
Hold the rod inside and just at the top of the pipe, so it will drop 6 inches (and just a tiny bit more).
Position the tip of the pipe at the top of the target key, 1/8" or less above the key.
Let go of the rod for a controlled fall of about 6 1/2" inside the pipe. Cut the pipe 1/2" inch shorter if you're really worried.
Make sure the cushion is on the bottom of the rod so it will protect the key.
It's very simple. No need for anything more.

Make the PVC pipe one inch shorter and put a one inch mark on the steel rod. Then you can drop the rod without making a pin/pull drop set up. Taping a hammer shank to the PVC will give the key height so you don't have to hover....
  just some thoughts

If you are giving an official exam, you need to get the official thumper.

If you want something to approximate the exam test blow, get a piece of 3/8" steel rod, 12" long, and a piece 5/8" inner diameter pvc pipe 18" long. Glue some cloth punchings on the end of the rod to protect the keytops.
With this you can control and drop a half pound weight 6 inches for a test blow.

Repeat: THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL THUMPER, but it will give you a good estimate of a test blow for training purposes and self-testing.

Does anyone know where I can get the specs to make a tuning test blow jig?

      Thanks!
