OFFICE MEMO Steinway Purchase Date: 4/20/95

I'm sure everyone in the music industry is concerned about how the sale of
Steinway will affect the way they build their instruments. To say the least,
even those that take issue with Steinway in regard to their manufacturing
procedures and philosophy would not welcome changes that might detract from
Steinway's years of building instruments intended for discriminating artists
and listeners. Being concerned myself, I called Scott Jones at the factory to
ask how he and others at the company felt about the new owners. He summed up
feelings at the factory very quickly by quoting a comment from Kyle Kirkland
(one of the two primary investors in Selmer) that had appeared today in the NY
Daily News. "It's not my plan to tell them how to make pianos. They know what
they do, and they do it better than anyone."
