>> I wonder if that can be taken to mean that they are going to send all >> their engineers and "efficiency experts" home and let piano builders >> build pianos? > >Don't get your hopes up... I was talking about this with my father (U of Idaho) this afternoon (hi Dad). He told me that his chairman had gotten ahold of some more information on the transfer. I won't try to repeat the details, but it seems that Selmer is also controlled by a holding company; that Samick wants desparately to buy Steinway, but is short of cash because of some recent capital improvements of their own in Korea. So the speculation is that Selmer's holding company is simply buying S&S to "hold" (sorry about the pun) it til Samick (or someone else) can come up with more cash. This is getting to sound more and more like an Ian Sholes satire. "I gotta go..." Mark Mark Story, RPT Eastern Washington University | mstory@ewu.edu Cheney, Washington, USA | mark.story@phunnet.org
