Cliff said to twist the string until the windings tightened up. You can feel when you reach that point because it becomes much harder to twist. Also, as soon as the windings tighten, the string will attempt to loop like a garden hose that you are rolling up. Each string will dictate how much twisting it needs to tighten the wrap.
