I have accomplished this by suggesting to the chair that this is the policy. He agreed, being a pianist. I then told everyone that that is the policy. If I found a student practicing on a performance piano I told them the policy and asked them to use a practice room. I asked them if they liked the piano that way it is and said that if everyone used it for practice then it could not be used for performance. If you can use it so can they all. I have intrupted lessons given on performance pianos with the same spiel. Some of our performance pianos are locked with combination locks which I change every semester. I had admin support originally (new chair) but the policy remains. If you say something long and often enough it becomes law. Newton nhunt@rci.rutgers.edu
