      Gordon: Tough problem! You might count up the Steinways and determine
a ball-park estimate on replacement cost. Also, simply point out the
"sensitivity" of the wood AND steel to temperature swings. The fact that the
entire mess prevents you from doing YOUR job might also have some affect.
      On another angle, the BEST way to assure something gets done around
here is to get the most influential faculty members up in arms over it.
THEY'RE the ones who can get things done! If, however, they have resigned
themselves to putting up with such intolerable situations, you're pretty much
out of luck.
      One more point. The science buildings that use lab animals are
required to be under the tightest environment controls...wouldn't want
those poor monkeys to freeze their "you-know-what's" off! : )
