Merrrrrry Xmas and or Happy Holidays all,
   Jeannie, I believe a belt/disc sander is excellent for arcing the tails of
grand hammers and tapering the sides of new hammers. Sometimes when your
replacing upright hammers, if you do that kind of thing, the originals were
tapered in the high treble and the sander does that job well also.
