Mark, I'm far from an expert, but we have a Zuckermann "Stein" FP here, and if the copy is accurate in that detail, I wouldn't worry about over- striking. On this one, the kapsel holds the shank about 2 inches below the string and the hammer is only about 3/4" of wood and stretched leather. The hammer is mounted at an angle away from the kapsel so that when it hits the string, the hammer molding is perpendicular to the string. BTW I got the leather for my latest re-leathering from a local deer hunter. I think it is doeskin, and I mounted it rough side out.
