As far as I can tell, calipers and micrometers are equally accurate.
It's the application of them that may give varying results.  There is
a wider, more stable measuring surface with micrometers that give you
a sure measurement when measuring things like wire.  The calipers are
much thinner in its jaws, and is much more difficult to get a good
reading.
