Michael,

Don't expect to be able to learn this stuff through e-mail postings anymore
than one could learn piano tuning via the same route.  If I could show you
in person you'd get it very easily.  There'll be a journal article coming
out in the near future which will give a clearer picture of it all (pictures
and arrows).
