advertising?

I am generally opposed to commercial advertising on this list; however, I
would suggest a compromise of sorts:

If you have something for sale, why not simply post a message such as:
Widgets for sale, email me for details at widgetmeister@gizmo.com or some
such.

This will let people know that you have something for sale and respond
accordingly but not burden others with an extremely long commercial
message.

Just a suggestion.
