The side bearing on the pins reverses so as to equalize the overall side bearing on the bridge itself. Namely, if all of the pins are facing the same direction then all of the lateral pressure on the bridge goes the same way. This reversalof the pins thus neutralizes this pateral lateral pressure and reduces the tendencies of both the plate and the bridges to move sideways. Sorry about the typosEd Hiol Ed Hilbert
