Plugging/reboring hammers

Good Luck!  I would assume that the hammers in question have been tapered
and shaped in addition to being bored.  On the boring gigs I've seen,
trying to get a hammer whose sides are *not* parallel to stay put will be
next to impossible.  (You actually meant that the *old* hammers weren't
reused, right?) If I were in your shoes, I'd look around for a piano whose
hammers could be "refreshed" with a newer set of hammers/shanks/flanges
and just put the whole sheebang in, saving the hassle of removing,
plugging, reboring and remounting a set of hammers.  If the centerpins
are questionable, it would still be less time-consuming to rebush and repin.
