Piano is now back on the stage truck. Visible damage is:front lid cracked all the way through to bottom veneer, short prop stick shattered (got caught between the case and the lid),hinge closest to keyboard bent beyond use, lockbar crushed on one end,and minor case damage from lockbar and prop stick. Plate appears to be fine, action too. In fact it not only played when we set it up, it was in tune! However, now that it has set for 8 hours the tuning is starting to go out. The piano was built in 1973, and shows case wear and tear typical of a stage piano. It is on a list of pianos to be rebuilt, but is still tunable and sounds pretty good (at least it did) so it will be hard to decide where to stop. I'd love to have it rebuilt (the V bar could certainly be improved, among other things) but the money to do it isn't exactly sitting around waiting for a convenient time to spend it. I'll keep you posted. David Graham,RPT dgraham@niu.edu
