David;
"I have got to wonder about the form with dimensions already
written in. I believe the technician has to go to the piano and
measure them before Yamaha can make the keys. I wonder if
there isn't more to this story...?"

David, Yamaha sends a form with the needed dimensions blank and the form is
to be filled in with the correct numbers, i.e. mm's. Yamaha is a great
company to work with but I have had the same experience as John P. Quite a
few instruments in this area have needed to have the keys changed and I have
never been asked by Yamaha to do one. (I have also never asked Yamaha to let
me do one) Quite often they will send someone from out of town/state to do
the work, as to why this is I don't know, but it has to be more expensive
that way. I have never cared how this got accomplished but it has created a
rather difficult situation for me at times along the lines of "if you know
what you are doing, why did Yamaha send someone else to take care of my
piano?" As you can imagine it is rather disconcerting and if the situation
is as John described it I would not fault him for being upset.

    Hi Jim,

It was Joseph Alkana who had this situation with Yamaha, not John P.
(I've not yet encountered a set of yellowed ivorite Yamaha keytops.)
    Just thought I'd clarify this.

    John P.
