I am rebuilding a 1904 Steinway "O" which is exceptionally attractive, but
needs
 a new soundboard.

Advice from a highly regarded source is to send the piano to Steinway for a
"Belly-1" job. Steinway has advised me that this job will take 2-4 mos and
cost
 $6,800 plus transport.

Hello Frank!

I've seen an example of a Steinway factory rebuild (also a Model O) and
thought it was the best workmanship on a soundboard and stringing that I have
ever seen...and that includes their new pianos! It was, quite simply, neat
and clean and a beautiful piece of spruce. And it has excellent sound.

I wouldn't hesitate to send it back to them.

Best Wishes & Happy Holidays to ALL on the list!
