I buy my new backchecks from Steinway. They are only about $90.00/ set, and
I use the "offical" Steinway Backcheck Installation Tool. It is listed in
their parts catalog.

I have not analyzed this new part, and obviously never even got around to
weighing them because I just presumed the new ones were lighter (thanks
Ken). Anyway, a fraction of a gram taken or added to this location is not
really significant to the touchweight.

All I can say is that I've done it both ways, this is what I perfer, and
I've had no problems. I also know that I am not the only one.

If someone has a good geometric argument for leaving the old ones, I'd love
to hear it.
