Avery,
      The question is how much are you willing to lose and how much time are
you willing to take to restore what was lost.
      A backup should work to restore ALL files, lost or wrecked, but a UPS
will prevent all, as long as it carries a charge and can take over without ANY
delay.  We have had UPSs here that were too slow coming on line to save data,
they had to be replaced.
