Yes, I have found the very same thing when I used to service these
instruments for a dealer from 1986-1988.  One thing i have found that
seemed to help me was, I would also tap each tuning pin coil down
until half of the becket hole showed on the other side of the wire
bend.  That, along with various seating techniques, and plate bolt
tightening, seemed to stabilize those instruments quite well, after a
couple of tunings.
