David, you are right on the money. For the experienced installer,
Dampp-Chaser's grand
piano instructions may be tedious to read. However, they do say the
following...

"The most favorable location for the humidifier is as close to the center of
the soundboard
as practical. Placing it greatly off center does not provide for the same
ease of moisture
distribution as exists if it is more toward the center of the soundboard.
 It can be
installed between the beams or under the beams. These advantages and
disadvantages should be considered before deciding where to put it.
 Functionally, it
makes no difference; the soundboard will receive the same amount of moisture
and it
will be distributed about the same in either case. Installed under the beams
provides for
easier installation. It provides greater location flexibility. It is
easier to service and the
possibility of condensation forming on the soundboard is essentially
eliminated. The
disadvantage is that it is more readily seen, and this may well be the most
important
consideration."

The section of the instructions entitled "Planning the Installation" provides
 good
overall guidance related to the entire installation, and is only 25% of the
installation
instructions.
