To Kathy Hodge
About bleach. A customer of mine used bleach in his humidifier--in an upright.
In only a few months a large section of strings around the humidifier were
coated with rust. I believe that chlorine bleach releases chlorine gas into the
air and of course very quickly rusts any iron-steel product and prob. corrodes
most metals within reach. I believe on a grand piano the chlorine gas could
easily go up through the plate suspension bolt holes in the soundboard and cause
corrosion as well as corrode any screws in S.B. i.e. bridge screws etc. I
definitely recommend sticking to the product that Damppchaser Corp. supplies. It
works--espec. at the new dose recommendation of 10 drops at each filling.
This is one situation where one should avoid chlorine bleach anywhere near the
piano. Best of luck to you.
