And when it does fail, a projectile the size of a .22 slug may be propelled
in the direction of the player (or the tuner).

When I read that some people were replacing hitch pins with nails a shiver
went up my spine.   While I've never heard of a serious accident with them,
the possibilities of problems seem to be too great to ignore.

The proper replacement is available. Please use it!
