Subject: Time: 9:02 PM OFFICE MEMO Yamaha Shank Weights Date: 1/27/96 We use them at Oberlin on (gulp) Steinway pianos as diagnostic tools and remedial parts. In regard to the former, it's a good way of approximating what the change in sound and feel to an action would be with heavier hammers. In regard to the latter, it's a quick fix for that action with worn hammers that doesn't sound too bad but is crying for the inertia lost from hammer wear. Try them. The results are really interesting. Ken Sloane, Oberlin Conservatory
