Indeed, these folks may have been using the same solvent for keys as for rub-downs. 30% is a lot of water content, and could easily explain my experiences. Thanks for this additional info, Bill. Any water content at all would be under 1%, and would be there only as a by-product of the manufacturing process. Isopropyl alcohol will have around 30% water. This is quite likely what these customers are using. We techincians should spell out the difference bewteen the two when we answer that question, "How do I clean the ivories?"
