Dear Mitch & Jeff, In my experience it is possible to tune the highest & the lowest parts of the piano with both plugs in place. Like most techniques, it takes considerable practice. I decided it was worth it 5 years ago. I saw the the decibel levels on tuning the high treble on an average grand piano, 110db or more. I already have some loss, I don't need anymore. Suggestion: tune with the plugs in, check without, tune again. You can do it. All the best, Dale Probst Registered Piano Technician Ward & Probst, Inc. Piano & Organ Service Wichita Falls, TX
