This is the same specification as Steinway, with Steinway backchecks
installed at
72 degrees from horizontal. This is certainly because the intersections of
the arcs of
hammer travel and backcheck travel are most efficient (i.e. steal the least
amount
of energy) in this configuration.

The 72 degrees we don't adhere to religiously, as slight variations can improve
checking according to differences in action spread and hammer tail shape.

Yes, indeed.  For fifteen years now.  But I still don't dance like
