Larry and all members of the list,

I have no problem with your posting, but would like to fling out the
following comments for discussion:

I believe that it should be OK to list personally owned items for sale
that are of specific interest to piano technicians, and a sight-o-tuner
is such an item, but with the following conditions met:

1. That the subject heading start with the words "For sale:"
2. That the text contain full name and street address
3. That the text contain at least a price that would be accepted,
      negotiation optional.

The reason for #1 is to save people who don't want to buy anything do
not waste their time. I'll bet everyone who owns or uses a
sight-o-tuner read the "Hale Sight-O-Tuner" message, and were
disappointed to find that it was not in regard to a technical issue.

The reason for #2 is for credibility. If it is an honest offering,
there is no reason not to let oneself be found by means other than the
elusive net. People who will not reveal their real addresses are not to
be trusted, and should not be allowed to post business here.

The reason for #3 is that so many people on the net use the ploy of "for
sale, make offer" to find out what something is worth, with no intention
of actually selling to you. The offer to sell MUST contain a price, no
matter how high it is, that the item can surely be bought for.

Any more ideas or disagreements out there?
