Ice Cream Spill

Hi List,

Here is one I want to pass on.

I went to a good client's house for the 6 month service of a Yamaha
grand (one of the imported "built for Japan" pianos).

This lady is a very nice person and we have had good talks about pitch
and other musical topics. She has also been pretty concerned about the
quality of the piano and has me check the fine soundboard cracks each
visit to see if they have gotten bigger. She has asked many questions
about the service of her piano.

So, this visit I was not surprised when she said, "Lately, there is a
weird sound when the kids play". I tried to get her to show me which
notes and which weird sound. She just asked me to keep it in mind
while I tuned the piano.

I opened the lid and started strip muting, looked down the plate
(around where C5 is tied) and saw a spilled small cup of ice cream,
with the fork laying in the spill.

I called to her and said that this would not cause a weird sound, but
was something that did not belong in the piano. I keep getting tools
and then she said something like "I got you" and showed me the fake
spill. We had a good laugh and talked about it for awhile.

This is a first for me and it really made my day. The whole
piano/music is so good for your soul and so sophisticated/uppity
notion got poked at.

A good laugh.
