Upright Dampers

Mr. Johnson made the point of damper hangers.

All the damper hangers have to be in a straight line and in the same plane.
The damper lift rod, with the hangers on, must be straight and true. The felts
in the hanger holders should be replaced for it appears some may be worn more
than others. The rod needs to be polished and lubricated against possible
future noise. Handling the rod can cause acid from the hands effecting the
felt and can cause oxidation.

Check the holders for any bending or otherwise potential misalignment.

To minimize the need for lots of damper timing problems check for only one or
two hangers being out of alignment.

Lubricate the felt before reinstalling the holders (dogs?) and the rod and
hopefully all the problems will be restored to factory original timing.
