My mother was a piano teacher from 1936 too the mid '70s. After a kid with a runny nose or cough she would wipe off the keys with rubbing alcohol. I do not recall any damage to ivory or synthetic keys. Have no info on the effectiveness of the treatment but sure made mom feel she had done the right thing. Travis Gordy
