Gluing Ivory

` I have had great success gluing on key fronts using ivory wafers. I
bought the cement wafers from Schaff (Part No 402).

The instructions for application as described in the Schaff catalogue are:
"This improved, chemically treated wafer is the most rapid method invented
for attaching ivory. Directions: Remove dirt and glue from key and ivory.
With tweezers, dip a wafer in cold water; then aply to key. Lay on ivory
and clamp plate; draw up clamp screw. Apply heat for one minute, using a
small alcohol lamp with the flame about one inch high. Distribute the heat
evenly, holding the key upside down over the flame. Give clamp screw a
little more pressure. Within 20 to 30 minutes, clamp may be removed."

I have a mini butane torche that I use for heating the plate.
There is a little clean up involved as there is a certain amount of squeeze
out of glue at the edges of the key. The key is well glued on, it is the
correct colour underneath and for some reason the joint with the tail turns
out to be almost invisible.

<Try using white liquid shoe polish. Dries fast and comes with it's own
<applicator. I agree with you, Jon. Acrylikey works great!
